April 26, 2022 Update

Lemons, mountains and another slight detour.

Like the old saying goes, "when life gives you lemons, cash in your airmiles and head to the mountains".

On Friday, we left Jackie's parents house (our temporary refuge as Covid was coursing through our house) to go to the Cross Cancer Institute for a few appointments then off to Calgary to check into our apartment.  Just after we left, Jackie's team contacted us to advise that we could not check in until the results of her Covid PCR test came back negative.  So the earliest would be Monday.

After weighing our options, although slightly hesitant, we decided the best option would be to check into a hotel for the weekend.  Jackie and I were asymptomatic for 8 days and continually tested negative with the rapid tests.  Long story short, 8 - 10 years of collecting Airmiles got us a pretty nice suite in Canmore.  If you are going to be stuck somewhere it might as well be in the mountains. We were able to avoid people and still get out and enjoy the mountain air and views.  There is definitely something about being in the mountains that rejuvenates and grounds a person. Jackie's results came back Saturday afternoon confirming she was negative for Covid.  This indicated to us that her admission and treatment would proceed as planned and we would be able to check into the apartment on Monday.

We reluctantly said goodbye to the mountains and left for Calgary.

The apartment we have is located on the 14th floor of the South Tower at the Foothills Medical Centre.  It is part of the patient and family hostel program at the facility.  We have 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a full kitchen and living room and we still have a distant view of the mountains from our kitchen window.  According to my trusty fitbit, it is about 750 steps from the apartment to Jackie's room on the unit.

  5. You made it to the next step!
Oddly enough, there have been several occasions where I've actually hung out in the Tom Baker patient area (main floor) back when I was between jobs and my wife's work took her to FMC.
Are the coloured cows still there?
    Take Care Jackie!
